Vice President and Chief of Staff, ASU Enterprise Partners

John Skinner is responsible for executive leadership support operations and oversees the organization’s culture in direct support of the chief executive officer. He joined the ASU Foundation in 2011; prior to this, Skinner served as assistant vice president and chief of staff for ASU Knowledge Enterprise Development, where he led executive support operations and the communications and marketing team supporting ASU’s research and economic development enterprise.

Prior to joining ASU, Skinner was an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton, a global consulting firm specializing in strategic communication for government agencies.

Skinner also served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, leading multiple public relations and marketing teams worldwide, serving as the aide-de-camp to a four-star general and as an Air Force ROTC assistant professor of aerospace studies at the University of Notre Dame. Skinner’s final position in the military was as acting deputy director of the Defense Press Office in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs where he primarily served as a Department of Defense spokesperson on detainee matters.

Skinner earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University where he was a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps. He also holds a master’s degree in international relations from Troy State University, a master’s degree in military operational art and science from the Air Command and Staff College, and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Air War College.
